The story of R & M Power Trikes
One builder. One problem worth solving.
Richard “Shorty” Lambright began with a simple concern: too many people were losing the chance to ride because traditional trikes were difficult to enter.

Retirement did not last long
Shorty spent most of his life as a builder, creator, and master woodworker in the Amish community. During visits to Sarasota, Florida, he began helping at Lapp’s Trike Rentals in Pinecraft, a community with a long Amish and Mennonite history.
There he saw older riders struggling with traditional trikes. High pedals and frames made it difficult—or impossible—for some people to ride with their friends and family.
The first Step-On
Shorty began sketching an electric trike from the ground up. By early 2021, his ideas had become metal frames with electric power, a low flat platform for the rider’s feet, and a comfortable chair with armrests.
The design removed the pedals and high frame that had kept many riders from participating. Word began to spread, and R & M Power Bicycle LLC was born.

From Step-On to Drive-On
Tandem Step-On designs allowed riders to share their newfound mobility with friends and family. Then Shorty met more people who wanted to take their wheelchairs with them.
He developed the Drive-On: a trike with a large wheelchair platform, rear loading system, and secure wheelchair position. Front-drive versions suited flatter areas, while later rear-drive designs were created for hillier parts of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Indiana.
In June 2025, R & M took an unconventional step for an Amish business and went online—with help from friends—to reach more people who want to ride and explore again.
Practical craftsmanship, shaped by the needs of real riders.
